Screwin' Around
Yeah... just screwin' around.
This past weekend we celebrated one of my favorite holidays - St. Patrick's Day! I've blogged about St. Patty's before, but this post is more to share some pictures of the day's events than anything else.
We started the day off by meeting up at Timmy & Julie's place over in Grandview for some several pints of Guinness - and you know how I loves me some Guinness! By mid-afternoon The Buckeyes had moved on to the next round of the NCAA tourney, most of the party guests had arrived, and I had several pints under my belt... so naturally it was time to get started with The Relays.
The Relays?
Last year at Timmy's (now annual) St. Patty's Day party a few of us (namely myself, Dan Bedar, and Derrick Long) came up with the brilliant idea to hold team relay races - complete with pints of Guinness of course! The key points to last year's races were spinning around in circles while holding a baseball bat to the ground, drinking a pint of Guinness, tossing bean bags, and running line sprints.
This year we altered the format of the races a bit:
- Two large teams (shenanigans vs. shamrock), composed of several smaller two-person teams.
- Several heats would be run, pitting a single two-person team from each of the larger teams against each other. The winner of each heat scored one (1) point for their respective large team.
- Each heat was composed of the following "steps"
- Team must drink 1 pint of Guinness
- Team must throw 3 bean bags through hole in Cornhole board. If a player misses the board entirely, the teammates must exchange places (by running to the other end of the boards).
- Team will use two (2) plastic spoons to transport an egg approx 15 ft. and drop it through a basketball hoop (4 ft. high). The egg may only be touched by the spoons. If the egg is dropped and breaks, the team must restart step #3.
- First team to drop their egg through the hoop wins the heat and scores a point for their large team.
- Each point earns the larger team an attempt to kick a field goal (with a small plastic field goal game - thanks to Brady Long for lending us his toys!).
- Team with most field goals wins The Relays.
In the end, the shenanigans ended up winning in sudden death overtime - I believe it was John Bibler Bryan Jensen who scored the winning field goal. Good job buddy!
After The Relays we all had a few more drinks and then headed to the Official St. Patty's Day headquarters here in central Ohio - Byrne's Pub. Much fun was had at Byrne's, and we've got some pictures to prove it!

You can see all of my pictures from the day at my Flickr page.
I was talking with Phil and Jon earlier today and we got onto the topic of personal finance... specifically the spending habits of married vs. unmarried men. (background: Phil and Jon are both married... I am not.)
The general consensus was that the bachelor tends to spend his hard earned scratch ($$$) on completely non-essential items (high-priced tech toys, alcohol paraphernalia, sports memorabilia, etc...) whereas the married man tends to make more conservative purchases. Then to drive the nail home, Phil mentioned the Beer Launcher as one of those items that the bachelor (read: me) would buy, but he won't can't.
And yes... I am the fellow coworker he's talking about.

Tonight Carli and I decided to forgo the typical Friday night of dinner & a movie, or bar hopping, or just hanging out at home and instead we went out and hit some golf balls at a driving range. Not such a crazy idea... until you consider that we live in Ohio, it's early February, and it's 12° F outside with a nice snow/ice mix covering much of the ground.
The Range
We didn't go all crazy like folks from the Polar Bear Club. Instead we hit up an indoor range. It's called the Golf Dome, but I'd describe it as one big-arse bubble.
The facility is a 100m x 100m (estimated) square piece of artificial turf (complete with fake bunkers, greens, pins, proshop, etc...) with a long double-decker concrete structure at one end that holds the tee boxes. Covering the 10,000 sq. meter area is a ginormous (yeah, that's a technical term) air-supported dome. It's a pretty sweet structure to be honest, and I was kind of impressed.
The Swing
I haven't swung a club since a trip to North Carolina a few months ago, and Carli informed me that she's not played since high school - roughly 7 years ago.
I had a pretty good outing as most of my shots seemed to be fairly straight with good distance. Oh, and I even hit the ball-retriever... twice! The first time I got him off a bounce, but the second time I dropped a shot right on top of the cab. It was a beautiful 75 yd shot with the old pitching wedge.
Carli had a bit of a rough shot, but by the end she was getting back into the swing of things. Once she finally stopped worrying about me watching her swing (or taking pictures) her shot started to straighten out. We even started to hear that nice ping sound when she made contact.
The Action
Being the shutterbug that I've become as of late, I was able to snap a few action shots... and then Carli was sure to take some shots of me. Enjoy!

No real news to report here... just some screwing around.
This is a picture of my cousin, Hayden, and I wearing our World Wrestling Championship belts. We were over at his parents' house one night a few days before Christmas and he had these two belts laying out.
As a kid I was a huge Hulk-a-maniac, so naturally I had to put the belt on... just like I used to do after winning it all in one of our living room Royal Rumbles. Although this time I didn't have to do a flying suplex off the top rope (a.k.a. - the back of the couch) to win the belt.
I'm not sure what Hayden was doing with the coffee pot, other than trying to spill it on me.
